PREPARING PHILANTHROPY TO PROMOTE EQUITY |
5 STRATEGIES TO PROMOTE RACIAL, SOCIAL, AND ECONOMIC EQUITY

We encourage board members, executive staff, and program officers serving philanthropic organizations to wrestle with the five strategies below as they consider how their philanthropic efforts can advance the vision for the New Mid South where racial, social, and economic equity paves the way for a prosperous region and health Mid South communities.

  1. Move beyond the charity model of philanthropy.

  2. Diversify governing boards and staffs of the region's philanthropic organizations.

  3. Listen attentively to, learn from, and develop new ways of inspiring and empowering people in local communities doing the work of building more just and equitable communities.

  4. Increase the possibility of equity being realized by supporting work that promotes the development of equitable public policies.

  5. Embrace and nurture the creativity, energy, and assets of the region's diverse young people.
