The Foundation for the Mid South offers the information on this website to the leaders of the Mid South because the foundation cares about the region and its future. Although the Mid South is made up of diverse, determined, and creative people and it also possesses a strong sense of community and caring, one can not be blind to its challenges. Too many children grow up in poverty and in poor health. And our rural areas lack opportunity and struggle to maintain viable economies in today's global marketplace.

The leaders in the Mid South possess vision and talent to make the region one that benefits all of its residents. What is often lacking is the willingness to work together across county/parish and state lines, to create inclusive decision-making processes, and to make sufficient public and private investments in institutions that promote opportunity for all people.

The Foundation for the Mid South, with the support of the Ford Foundation, has worked to provide the information, experiences, and learnings contained in this website and the accompanying, downloadable publications to help leaders in the Mid South see the importance of promoting equity and inclusion as a way to develop community wealth and a better quality of life in the region. Whether you or your organization are already engaged in issues of equity or interested in learning about the Foundation's experiences in equity, philanthropy, and organizational transformation since 2003, the information, processes, and examples included in the following pages can help guide and inform your decisions to engage in issues of equity within your organization and your community.
